Do you need a hygiene passport?
According to the Food Act, a hygiene passport is required for individuals handling easily perishable, unpackaged food products. Easily perishable foods include meat, milk, and fish, among others.
With sufficient knowledge of food and personal hygiene, the risk of food poisoning can be significantly reduced. For at-risk groups, food poisoning can be fatal.
Many employers in various industries require their employees to have a hygiene passport, even though it is not mandated by law. This ensures their employees' hygiene competence and strengthens their own quality control processes.
Sectors where a hygiene passport is generally required include kitchens, food kiosks, pizzerias, grill kiosks, service stations, food stores, ice cream kiosks, food sales by sports clubs, meat handlers in hunting clubs, slaughterhouses, hospitals, kindergartens, institutional assistants, the food industry, food transport, installers and maintenance personnel working in kitchens, catering companies, and primary food production.
